Happy Birthday, Precarious

They grow up so fast, don’t they?
(I’ve been mildly scolded about my shamefully out-of-date website, so here I am with a flurry of posts to make up for a shocking amount of lost time.)
This month marks a year since I first pulled Precarious: The Lives of Migrant Workers from my box of author’s copies. Precarious has had quite the year. The book was a finalist for the Wilfred Eggleston Prize for Nonfiction and won the W. O. Mitchell City of Calgary Book Prize – making me the only three-time winner of the award, but who’s counting. The book was also long-listed for the Toronto Book Prize and the J. D. Dafoe Book Prize.
So far, I’ve flogged the book from stages at author festivals in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, and did reading events in Victoria, Windsor, Toronto, Fernie and Bellevue. Hopefully I’ll bring Precarious to Ottawa before the end of the year.
And yes, I know it looks like I have an antler in the photo.
