
Head Bangers
I recently had the experience of researching and writing a story about concussions in high school football for Alberta Views. Not my regular beat, to be sure, but this is a fascinating and controversial topic. I was happy to contribute to the discussion in this small way. Also, this story gave me the chance to reconnect with Dave Diluzio, a childhood friend I hadn’t seen in decades.

I read your article and was impressed. Then the next issue of The Walrus had a similar article, but it was longer and added more detail to the topic. A sobering look at physical realities versus the societal love of bashing each other in ‘sport’.
Thanks, Sharon, but I don’t think my story supports your comment. According to my research for this article, concussion science – ie. the “physical realities” you speak of – suggest that concussion fears are overblown.
